About
Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) is a revolutionary energy-saving device jointly developed by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory Co., Ltd., and Mikado Propeller (currently Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd.). MOL Techno-Trade Co., Ltd. manages sales and collaborates with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Mitsui Akishima Laboratory Inc. on continuous research and development for further advancements.
MOL Group is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2. To contribute to a sustainable world, we proactively and systematically implement and evaluate energy-saving devices to improve vessel fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Environmental Contribution of PBCF

Annual CO2 Emissions Reduction of 9,000 Tons per Ship
With over 37 years of proven success, PBCF is recognized for its ability to reduce fuel consumption in ships. On large container ships, it can achieve an annual CO2 emissions reduction of over 9,000 tons. As CO2 emission regulations tighten, the Advanced PBCF is a revolutionary energy-saving device that enables even greater fuel efficiency and CO2 reduction.

Nikkei Global Environmental Technology Award
PBCF was awarded the Nikkei Global Environment Technology Award in October 2017 by The Nikkei, Inc.
The award recognized PBCF's efforts in environmental conservation, with over 3,200 units sold and its "unceasing challenge" to continue development for over 30 years since its launch. This award is a testament to the high of PBCF as a technology that contributes to solving environmental problems.

Participation in the Green Award Program to Promote Quality Shipping
Since February 2019, we have been participating as an incentive provider in the Green Award Program, a marine environmental protection program promoted by the Green Award Foundation. The Green Award Program is a certification program for ships contributing to environmental protection and safe operation. PBCF supports environmental protection by offering PBCF at a discounted price to ships certified by this program. Various organizations recognize PBCF as a technology that contributes to solving environmental problems.

Sponsorship of an Environmental Program Operated by Green Marine
Green Green Marine is an environmental performance certification program for the North American marine industry.
Established in 2009, it currently has over 140 participating companies and organizations. The program is based on 12 indicators of environmental performance, and underwater noise is one of the important indicators evaluated.
North American shipping companies are using PBCF to improve their scores in the Green Marine evaluation program. PBCF is attracting attention as a technology that contributes to environmental impact reduction because it can reduce underwater noise, improve fuel efficiency, and suppress hull vibration.
PBCF sponsors the Green Marine program and supports the spread of environmentally friendly ships.
